Espionage is a contrapuntal piano solo, reminiscent of a two-part invention. Being an organist, I love baroque music, and not only do I enjoy writing in this style, but I find it a real joy to play. As with many of my pieces, it is not as difficult as it sounds. Make sure to bring out the theme whenever it is present, and focus on crisp articulation throughout. Pedal should not be used at all owing to the fast harmonic rhythm. The piece is in 4/4 time and begins in C minor before progressing through E minor, G minor and D minor.
