I love a fair few I’d David’s works, but only a couple stop me in my tracks in whatever I’m doing and carry mind off to other places. Alicen’s nocturne is one such piece and there’s something quite hypnotic in its rhythm for me, the delicate tune which sings lyrically over the pulsing bass…. Just magical!!! I hope to make this a repertoire piece one day, but as a self taught pianist it’s quite challenging. But there’s no time limit, so if it becomes a life-long project or will be time well spent.
David Hicken's passion for his music will touch your heart. For me, hearing his compositions creates images of stories that could have been written in Jane Austin's novels. To borrow a quote, “It isn't what we say or think that defines us, but what we do.” Thank you for your music David!
Alicen's Nocturne is a smooth and gentle piece for the soul. I love playing it!
Alicen's Nocturne
I recently purchased Alicen’s Nocturne after I’ve been wanting to do so for quite a long time. It has a peaceful melody that is soothing to listen to. Even though I would say it’s relatively an easy piece it’s quite some work for the left hand, in my opinion.
I haven’t gone through it meticulously, only played it through roughly once. I realized that although I consider the piece ”easy” it will help me with both left hand independance and my note reading skills cause it’s not extremely hard.
Would definitely recommend the piece if you want a piece with great melody, work on your hand independance and improve your note reading skills without getting too much of a headache ;)

I'm enjoying so much playing this great piece and then resting in peace. Ah ! Ah !
I wish more of this type of compositions could be proposed by Sir Hicken.
Thank you !
The music arrangement was amazing, I can't stop to listening to it all the time. Personally, I wish the music sheet had been included with the pedals.
A epic music for organ, really very nice.
I was a mama-trained, daddy-sent, accomplished classical pianist all my childhood through college. Tired of the over saturation, I pursued another career, completely dropped classical music and only played for church for 48 years. I lost all my classical skill and technique. When I retired from my career, I wanted to begin practicing again but was very bored lack of strength, skill and the same classical pieces from college days. I had severe osteoarthritis in both wrists that caused stabbing pain in my hands. After CMC Arthroplasty reconstruction on both my hands and wrists at age 60, my hands were better than ever, but beginning piano again seemed impossible to attain. I was desperate and prayed for "something different" to motivate me to build my skill again. While trudging through the scales, arpeggios, and technique practice, God blessed me to stumble on a DAVID HICKEN link at the age of 69. I was mesmerized with the desire to be able to play again like that. After 2 years of technique practice and at least 9 David Hicken's books of brilliantly designed compositions, I am SO MOTIVATED as my brain and hands are slowly but surely getting back the skill that I used to enjoy. It is more rewarding than ever to be able to play again, (like a long-lost language) that I thought was gone forever. I am elated with motivation at 71 years this Sept. 2023, that my greatest joy is still ahead of me. I am here to tell you, no matter how long it has been, you CAN do it again. Thank you, David Hicken!

Tellement accrocheur. Un beau défi pour moi. Hâte d'en faire profiter mes auditeurs.
