Talavera is named after the battle of Talavera during the Napoleonic Wars. It is an exciting piece in C minor which modulates to C# minor and D minor towards the end. Keep the energy moving by maintaining a very steady beat throughout, and don’t worry if you can’t play it as fast as the recording. Follow the fingerings that I have suggested in various places (which are the fingerings that I use). When the theme is in the left hand, make sure to bring it out clearly, and it will help to make the right hand slightly softer in those areas. Curved fingers and loose wrists are essential. It’s a fun piece to play, and intermediate pianists can handle it without a problem.
