A King’s Ransom is an adventure piece in 4/4 time which begins in E minor before modulating to G minor, C minor, C# minor and ending in E minor. Maintain the sense of excitement with very strict timing. Don’t worry if you can’t play it the same speed as on the recording, but keep the playing crisp and clean. A metronome helps a lot, and I use mine constantly. There aren’t many dynamic changes, but when you see them, make them very obvious. The piece is much easier than it sounds and is certainly accessible for intermediate pianists. Great for a recital!
