‘Stories of You’ began with three previously unfinished works. ‘Chance Encounter’ was originally a choral piece entitled ‘Pie Jesu’, ‘Kaiaka Bay’ was for cello solo, strings and piano, and ‘Portrait Nonpareil’ was supposed to be part of an album to follow ‘Faeries’.
Beginning with those three pieces, the album was finished very quickly while I was staying in California. Basically, I worked on one new piece every day until the album was complete.
Once it was finished, there was so much to do with mastering, artwork, production of CDs etc., that I chose to put it aside for a while, because I was soon going to be moving house.
The house move took much longer than expected, so I decided to release the album as digital only (and went on to do the same with the rest of my albums).
While waiting for a new house to be completed, I filmed many of the pieces at the studio of my friend Patrick Moraz, former keyboard player for ‘Yes’ and ‘The Moody Blues’.
All of the pieces are slow and romantic in nature, and the album was a success. It was even nominated by Solo Piano Radio for album of the year.
The album is very dear to me, and contains some of my prettiest compositions.
